Plymouth House has 2 large car parks, with space for around 25 cars. The front car park also has Disabled Parking. From the main road, there is level access from the pavement to the car park. The carparks are well lit during the night.
The Main Entrance is accessible from the front carpark. There is a access ramp, which leads up to the front door of the building. The front entrance is well lit and has a Intercom Panel, which can be reached from a wheelchair.
The main entrance doors are 900 mm wide and open outwards.
The rear entrance is accessed via the rear car park. This door is not not usually open to the public, so you will need to either ring the office, or ask Reception to let you in via this door. 900 mm wide and open outwards. There is a ramp leading to the rear entrance, which is also well lit up at night.
Reception is on the ground floor, immediately in front of you, when you walk through the main entrance. It is level access and is lit from overhead lighting. The floor is non slip and is linoleum.
Reception is manned, 9am – 1pm Mon to Fri
The main corridor, (Also known as The Street) runs along the front of the building and connects the north and south wings of the building, as well as providing access to the 1st floor, from Main Reception.
The Street is well lit, from overhead lighting and has a mixture of carpet and linoleum floor coverings. Along one side, there are also windows, which provide extra lighting.
The Street on the first floor, is the same as the ground floor, in relation to the lighting and carpeting.
The corridors are well lit by overhead lighting and has a carpeted floor covering. The corridor has windows on one side and is well lit, by overhead lighting.
There toilets on the ground floor, 4 doors from our office.
The Disabled Toilet does not need a RADAR key to open it. The toilet is standard height and has a lever type flush. There is no space at the side of the WC Pedestal, so a wheelchair user would need to place their wheelchair in front of the WC, to transfer. There is little space for a Carer to assist with this.
The sink, hand dryer, toilet paper, mirror and soap are low level and can be reached by a disabled person. There are lever taps on the sink. The floor is non-slip Linoleum and the area is well lit with overhead lighting.
There are grab rails by the toilet, hand basin and on the door. A mirror is fitted to the back of the toilet door. There is no assistance alarm fitted in the disabled toilet.
There is a fire alarm sounder in the toilet, which is audio only. (Please see the section below, on evacuation) The disabled toilet is right next to the fire escape door.
The Disabled Toilet door is 800mm wide and opens outwards. The door is locked by a “twist” lock, which can be released from outside.
There are both male and female toilets, located next to the Disabled Toilet. These are well lit, with overhead lighting. Both the Male and the Female Toilets have floor to ceiling toilet cubicles, as well as Vanity Units with Mirrors, Soap Dispensers and Hot Air Hand Dyers. The Male Toilets, also have 2 Wall Hung “Bowl” Urinals.
Both the Male and Female Toilets, have windows, for extra light and non slip Linoleum flooring.
Additional Standard toilets are available on the first floor of the building.
The Toilets on the first floor, are on “The Street”.
There are both male and female toilets, located next to the Disabled Toilet. These are well lit, with overhead lighting. Both the Male and the Female Toilets have floor to ceiling toilet cubicles, as well as Vanity Units with Mirrors, Soap Dispensers and Hot Air Hand Dyers. The Kitchen is in on the ground floor and is fully accessible.
The appliances, such as the dishwasher and the microwaves can be reached by a disabled person. The lights are bright and are overhead. The floor is non slip Linoleum.
There are tables and chairs, which are at wheelchair height. Please ask if you need a chair moving)
The door to the kitchen is a single door, which opens inwards.
The Office is in Room G2 It is big enough for a wheelchair user to turn and access the desk space. The door is 800mm wide and opens inwards.
The tabletop is wheelchair height and the mixerdesk can be reached easily by a user in a wheelchair. We can move the chairs, so that a wheelchair user can access the equipment.
The office is carpeted and lit by overhead lightning.
The Fire Alarm is a loud continuous wailing siren, which will sound throughout the building.
The Office is on the Ground Floor and is right next to the Fire Exit doors, to the rear yard. There is also another fire exit, ajacent to the toilets, as well as exiting the building via the main entrance.
We have Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEP) in place, for all of our Disabled Volunteers, who access our base.
