Public urged to avoid M6 after fatal HGV crash

POLICE have confirmed that a HGV driver has died following a serious collision on the M6.

It was originally reported that they sustained serious injuries.

Shortly after 8am this morning, Tuesday, police were called to the northbound carriageway between junction 17 for Sandbach and junction 18 for Middlewich.

A HGV had collided with a bridge and the carriageway is currently closed.

The closure is expected to remain in place for several hours.

Local diversion are place but there are long delays and members of the public are advised to avoid the area if possible.
