THE stage is set for a Cheshire-based band determined to get back momentum after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The various lockdowns and restrictions put a stop to live music, and for the band members of Rosellas, which was only created in 2019, the lifting of Covid restrictions has been a welcome chance to get back on the music scene doing what they love.

Rosellas is described as a guitar driven band with ‘a nod to the bands of 90s Manchester, whilst drawing sonic comparisons to the Arctic Monkeys and DMA’s with a melodic sophisticated edge’.

The five members, three of whom met while studying at Wilmslow High School, have gone from playing small pub gigs to crowds of more than 100 people in venues around the north west.

After supporting and playing with high-profile bands like Blossoms, Liam Gallagher, Fontaines DC and M60, this year is shaping up to be an exciting one.

Rosellas consists of Drew Selby (lead guitar and lead vocal), Luis Sullivan (keys and backing vocals), Euan Mail (rhythm guitar), Mark Zanker (drums) and Ollie Appleby (bass).

They recently put on a gig at the Festival Hall in Alderley Edge on Aug 20 – one of their first gigs back after lockdown.

And it was definitely one to remember.

“The atmosphere in the room was fantastic,” said Drew, lead guitarist and vocalist, who grew up in Handforth.

“We knew a lot of people in the crowd, mates and family members, but for us, it was the whole experience – it’s how people were singing back our own lyrics.”

But that isn’t all on Rosellas’ list for 2021.

Drew and his bandmates have been working hard to play as many gigs as possible before the end of the year to pick up momentum.

Their next live performance will be on Saturday, September 11 at Gullivers in Manchester.

Talking about the band’s music, Drew said: “We write from experience, we rarely write from a theoretical point of view, and we never actually tell people the meaning behind the lyrics.

“We know if you have to tell people, that would completely shatter the meaning of that song for them and we want people to apply their own meanings.”
