Our Website
Our website runs WordPress, which is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) written in PHP and is paired with a MySQL or MariaDB database with support for secure Socket Layer (SSL), using HTTPS. Our website is hosted by Krystal, who have been our Web Host for the last 2 years.
The website is hosted in London, near to London Liverpool Street Station and is our host’s Flagship Data Centre. The Datacentre has both physical (security guards, airlocks, colour CCTV etc) and electronic (firewalls, DDOS Protection, Data Theft, Exploits etc) safeguards.
The Datacentre also has automatic fire suppression, which will instantly put out a fire, before it can break out. The Datacentre also has Universal Power Supplies, which will keep servers running until the Diesel Generators can start up. The Datacentre has a fuel delivery agreement, which allows a short notice delivery of fuel, for prolonged power outages.
Our Datacentre also has multiple carriers to provide a constant and high speed connection to the Internet. these Connections to the Internet, use high speed Fibre T1 connections, along with T1 connections to connect to other Datacentres and their customers.
The actual Website itself, uses a heavily modified version of the Astra Theme as a template, which has been adapted to our needs, by using various plugins and code edits. It uses various plugins, to provide on air information, info on upcoming shows etc
Our IT Team maintain the website, but special thanks to Aaron Bennett, Thomas Marshall and Aaron Wheeler, for getting the new website up and running, by copying content from the old website to the new website.
Connect (Intranet)
Connect, (Which is the Station Intranet) also runs on WordPress and is our internal website for the station. Connect runs on it’s own dedicated virtual machine, (Hosted at the office) and is running LAMP. (Linux, Apache, MYSQL and PHP.)
The Intranet has been designed to be easy to use, with simple navigation and uncluttered pages. It is designed to be fast and loads quickly on modern web browsers, such as Chrome, Opera and Firefox. The Intranet has access to a wide variety of resources, such as handy guides and ‘how to’s’, information on the various station Directorates, an Internal Phone Directory, access to Forms and the Station Policy Hub.
You cannot access the Intranet from the Internet, as it is restricted to our Volunteers only. To access the Intranet, you must either be sat in front of one of the Station Network Enabled Workstations, or via SWAN VPN. This is purely for confidentiality and data security, as some information on the Intranet cannot be leaked to the Internet.
