Shout Radio HQ (The Broom Cupboard)

The Presenter’s Desk

The Studio is based at a undisclosed location in Blackpool and is where many of our shows are broadcast from. The Studio, also known as “the Broom Cupboard”, (because of it’s size) is where we broadcast the majority of our Live Continuity. (Live Shows). The studio is in use 7 days a week and has modern up to date equipment. There is space for the Presenter, Co Presenters and Production Volunteers to sit.

The Broom Cupboard has the following equipment:

  • 18CH Sonifex S2 Broadcast Desk, with 2 mics. (Presenter and Co-Presenter)
  • HP PC, with 13th Gen Processor, 8GB of Ram, Windows 10 Pro, with Play It Live and Audacity installed This PC is loaded with 500GB of Music. That is more than most Radio Stations have! The music is also categorised, to make it easier to find. All Music is in .mp3 fornat
  • Separate PC that runs the Smart Screen. The Smart Screen displays the clock, latest news from the BBC and switches on and off the studio indicators (On Air, Telephone, Now Playing, Fire Alarm and Live Microphones)
  • Granstream IP Phone (The Studio Phones do not ring, instead they flash, to alert us to an incoming call)
  • Studio Headphones
  • Speakers
  • Duel ViewSonic 32′ Monitors
  • Fibre Internet that is fast
  • Webcam (Not working atm)

In addition to the Presenter’s PC and the Smart Screen, there is a Co-Presenter’s Laptop and a Production PC. Another IP Phone is available, for handling on air calls. On the wall, is the Station Whiteboard, which is used to display information for Presenters, who are going on the air. There is also a bright On Air Light to indicate when the studio is on air. This is on the wall, above the Presenter’s Desk.

Under the middle of the desk, is our Comms Cabinet. This contains the servers that run our Network, as well as the Fibre Modem, 24 Port Network Switch, Uninterruptable Power Supplies, Studio Equipment Relays and a ton of cabling. This equipment is always switched on. (then again, so is the mixer desk, as it doesn’t switch off like a normal appliance!)
